Irish Soda Bread

This poster explores a part of my cultural heritage by visualizing the process of making Irish soda bread–a traditional dish passed down to my family by a close friend with deep ties to Ireland. The layout follows a spiral composition, starting at the bottom with illustrations of wheat transforming into flour, and ending up at the top with the finished bread, symbolizing the mixing of the ingredients and the cyclical nature of the recipe.

Celtic-inspired type is used for the title and historical context, reflecting on my Irish roots. As the poster progresses, the typography transitions into my own handwriting to represent my personal relationship with the dish and the evolution from heritage to individual expression.

This piece was selected for the Food for Thought exhibition, which showcased cultural dishes and their personal significance. I gave a five-minute talk alongside other selected designers, highlighting the role of food identity and tradition. The project also included a video component documenting the baking process, with animated graphics integrated to reflect the visual language of the poster.
