This self portrait was created as an exploration of typographic form and the principles of Gestalt. Using only letterforms–no symbols or numbers–I combined elements from two typefaces, Futura and Sabon, to build the features of the face. The geometric structure of Futura contrasts with the classic serifs of Sabon, which I used to add texture and depth, particularly in the beard area. Limiting myself to letterforms posed a unique design challenge and led to creative interpretations of facial features and form.
